xylometazoline
n.
a sympathomimetic drug that constricts blood vessels (see vasoconstrictor). It is applied topically (in the form of drops or a spray) as a nasal decongestant for the relief of the common cold and sinusitis. Toxic effects are rare, but the congestion may worsen transiently when treatment stops.
